McCoy, er, Mesquite Smoked

Friday afternoon I came home from work and there was a present on our doorstep: a package from our friends in Texas.  Saturday morning rolls around and one of these delicious beers is chilling in the fridge when said friend began randomly talking smack about my college football team.  Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

After slinging a few insults (in jest) in his direction, I realized that we couldn't get the came on tv and would instead have to watch it on our computer which is nice, but is just not the same. Sitting in front of the TV on a chilly rainy winter day, drinking beer and wasting the day watching football away feels completely legit and perfectly awesome.  Sitting in front of a computer screen, drinking beer and wasting the very same day away watching football feels lonely, depressing and just plain wrong.

So I decided to open one of the delicious beers from my smack talking friend, sit on the couch, kick up my feet and and enjoy watching Texas lose to Baylor.  The same Baylor who hasn't had a 9 win season since 1986...when I was in preschool.

Anyway, the beer of choice was the Mesquite Smoked Porter (6.4% ABV) from Ranger Creek Brewing Company in San Antonio, Texas. The smoke smell hits you a little hard at first but after your first sip, it calms down.  The beer is smooth and rich, but also delicate.  We both commented on the campfire feel of the beer - which is a compliment.  If we lived in Texas, we'd get this again for sure.

Cheers to Puga!  Keep up the smack talk, it makes your beer taste better.
