Fridge re-fill

After drinking most of my sister's beer, we re-filled her fridge with a few random beers from the local store in her neighborhood.  I picked out the Circus Boy, a Hefeweizen brewed by Circus Boy Brewing Company in South Burlington, Vermont.

Welcome to New York le Scoot

After flying all day and arriving at my sister's apartment, Scott helped himself to a McSorley's Irish Pale Ale.  Just what he needed.

NYC + Fall = Leaf Piles

Whit and Katie flew to New York to visit Whit's sister.  They enjoyed a girls day/night before daddy arrived.  After flying across the country (on crappy US Airways with no food), they walked for a bit and then headed to the neighborhood standby watering hole, The Half King.

Whit enjoyed a Greenport Harbor Leaf Pile, which was basically a delicious blast of fall (nutmeg) in a glass.

Followed by a salmon burger and a Post Road Pumpkin Ale by Brooklyn Brewery.  Both were delicious.  What a great start to a long weekend vacation!

Just another Wednesday night

Sometimes I think we take for granted all the really GOOD beer we have access to in Arizona.  While packing for our upcoming vacation, I enjoyed an Inversion IPA from the Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon.

Happy Anniversary Beer, oh... I mean Dear

Today we celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary.  Time does fly when you're having fun...or maybe it's just once you have kids that time flies even faster.  Who knows?!?  Either way, it's been a wonderful 3 years and I truly believe that we've both loved every minute.

To celebrate the big day, we shared a Conflux Series No. 2 brewed by Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon AND Boulevard Brewing Co in Kansas City, Missouri.  Whaaaaaaaaaat?  Yes, you read that right.  It is a combination of the Boulevard Ale and White IPA.  To quote the bottle, "the conflux series is where we unite with fellow craft beer zealots separated by distance, but not passion, to create unlikely, one-time-only collaborations."

Rankings (1 to 5):
Scott:  since we shared it, he claims he had too many flavors in his mouth to accurately judge the flavor. He wants more in order to form an opinion...but we don't have any more.
Whit:  I give it a 4.  Very good.  Not an IPA fan but this made it easy to drink an IPA, even if it was mixed with an Ale that I like normally.

Grocery shopping

I took my mom to Whole Foods on Monday night "to get groceries."  Becky noticed the display of various pumpkin beers in the grocery section.  After roaming around for a while, we found the bar.  So we bellied up to the bar (in the grocery store) and stayed to taste various pumpkin beers.

Whit had a Pumpkin Porter from Four Peaks Brewery in Tempe, Arizona (ok fine, I actually had 2) and Becky had a Pumpkin Seasonal Ale from Wasatch Brewery in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Scott walked over and joined us later after his haircut and ordered a specialty beer with a gold glitter filled snowglobe on the tap.  It was a Burton Baton from Dogfish Head Brewery in Milton, Delaware.  It was 10% abv.

Who says grocery shopping is no fun??

Friday of Ska Brewing

It's Friday so it's understandable that we'd consume more than one beer...but we stuck to the Ska Brewing Company from Durango, Colorado.

First the True Blonde Ale...

Rankings (1 to 5):
Whit:  easy drinking.  Nothing remarkable.  Rates it a 3.5.
Scott:  didn't get any.  Whit drank it all.

Then the ESB...

Rankings (1 to 5):
Whitney:  interesting. Aftertaste is the same as the aftertaste in your mouth after chewing bubble gum. Gives it a 2.
Scott:  agrees with Whit's aftertaste theory.  Unranked because Whit drank it all.
