Meddlesome Moth and Dirk Nowitzki

Farmhouse Wit (4.8 % ABV)

When you meet someone and fall crazy in love with someone like a silly school girl (normal people do this too, right?) you never really stop to think about their family.  Or maybe you do.  But you never consider how their siblings will become your brother or sister in-law.  Ok fine, maybe some people do.  But I didn't.

Lucky for me, The Husband has two super chill and very easy going brothers that have since become my brothers-in-law.  And I'm not sure if they know this, but I tend to think of them as the brothers I never had.  An added bonus is that these two both chose some seriously amazing women for wives and essentially gave me two more sisters in my life.  I know you guys didn't pick your wives on my behalf, but thanks because they rock.

We packed up the family and went to Texas to visit The Husband's younger brother, wife and two amazingly cute boys.

One of the nights we left all the munchkins at home with a sitter and went out for drinks and dinner at The Meddlesome Moth and to The Avett Brothers concert -- I'll come back to this in a minute.  The Meddlesome Moth was quite the beer lovers heaven and I wish I could go back on a weekly basis.  They had about a billion beers on tap, and not just any beers, GOOD and rare beers.  Our waiter was educated about their beers and super friendly.  I went with the local brew first and my brother-in-law saw me take a picture and asked if I was going to blog about it.  Maybe.  Then he picked on me for taking the extra 10 seconds to e-mail it to myself so I wouldn't forget a month down the road what kind of beer I was looking at in the photo.  This lead to the conversation of cell phone etiquette and he mentioned that he and a few of his friends have, on occasion, thrown all cell phones into the middle of the table at dinner/drinks and whomever reaches for their phone first has to pick up the tab.  I fell in love with this idea and have mentioned it to friends of mine when they're on their phones while we're out.  Point taken.

As is not unusual, there was some miscommunication between The Husband and his brother and when we arrived in Texas, my brother-in-law asked me why I hated The Avett Brothers.  Whaaaaat?  I had never heard of them before I was told that we were going.  I don't think I'll know a single song of theirs so by definition, I can't hate them. None-the-less, all weekend the running joke was how Saturday night was going to be the worst night of my life because I had to go see the worst band on the planet.

Turns out, The Avett Brothers are not so bad.  Especially funny to The Husband and I was the song below, "Love Like the Movies," which we had never heard before the concert.  We both heard it and thought they were saying "...in love with your boobies."  Now if you listen to it, it becomes a little funnier.

About 3 giant plastic cups of Bud Light and roughly half way through the concert, The Husband and I decided that we were awesome and should try to sneak down to the front row.  Surprisingly, no one cared and one guy even welcomed us.  Right on.  Before I know it, I'm leaning on the fence front and center with my 6'5 husband behind me and no one behind him (this always happens and it's awesome).

During the encore, there's a surprise guest playing the tambourine on stage...none other than Dirk Nowitzki.   Now I happen to 1) hate the NBA and 2) think that Dirk is one of the ugliest guys in the NBA (next to Chris Kaman) but at this point the giant cups of Bud Light and I loved that there was a giant awkward NBA player on the stage playing the tambourine approximately 15 feet away from me.

Here's Dirk playing "I Killed Sally's Lover" with The Avett Brothers on June 2, 2012...

All in all, it was a great night full of excellent beer (not the Bud Light), good laughs and fun memories.

Thanks Mark and Mer!

Double Bag Strong Ale

The kitchen projects are complete and we now have an electric green back splash (not what we were going for, but I think we're both too lazy to re-paint it) illuminated more by the new under cabinet lighting.  Cheers!
